I really don’t remember. I have
been at Rainbow Bridge for so long that I have forgotten what my rescuers called me. I did
have a name prior to them finding me, but they did not know what it was,
and I let them “re-name” me.
I am now a Guardian Angel for those who are still looking for a home.
I am not alone here, we are a bunch.
But, I have been chosen to write for “our” web page.
One of us gave Gulfstream
Rottweiler Club the idea of creating a “club”, or a “rescue group”.
I think it came from one of those “show dogs” here with us.
I remember the conversation well.
My friend was telling us stories of his wonderful home and, how
much he loved the “humans” who lived with him. He told us of happy days,
of trips, of going to dog shows, whatever that meant.
He had his own bed, and at times he shared it with his human
friends. He had his own car, and a DRIVER, too!
He traveled by air, and had a boat. Ah! And a swimming pool as big
as a house.
Some of us were listening
in AWE. We, were not that lucky, we thought.
One said, “because I did
not have any of those things you mentioned, a human gave me a gentle
shot, and I ended up here at Rainbow Bridge”. Another, told his story too. He told us about how he was “abused”, alcohol poured on his
back and then set on fire! And more and more not so
lucky friends began to tell their story of how they came to Rainbow
Bridge.
I was in shock, and so was
my “show” friend. I had been lucky to have found good humans while I was
walking the streets. The
humans who lived with me gave me everything my “show” friend had.
Well, maybe not everything, but I had what I considered most
important, LOVE. I WAS VERY
MUCH LOVED!.
My “show” friend was so
shocked and spoke to the
group.
“I was not aware, my
friends, of how many of you suffered from not having a good home”, he
said. And then, he
began to talk about trying to help those who were in need.
He had great ideas, but none of us knew how we were going to
accomplish those from so far away.
“Let us be called
GUARDIAN ANGELS!”, he shouted.
“Angels!?”
I said quietly to myself.
He explained how
Angels have wings, and they are “spirits”, too, and can not be seen.
He told us that Angels are very close to God, and that God listens
to them. He told us,
that all we needed was to find those humans who were close to God.
THEY in turn would listen to God.
All we had to do was
to whisper in God’s ear the names of our friends in need. And then, whenever God was
in “conference” with one of those loving humans, He would tell them
what to do.
I said, “OK!”,
but, I still have a big question. How are you going
to tell our abandoned friends who to look out for? How would they know which home to
go to, the neighborhood to walk by, or to whom to “talk to” when they
are behind chain link fences, or to beg for shelter and food and love?”
My “show” friend
smiled. He had the biggest
smile I have ever seen.
He then explained, “How many of us here
had a great home?”, he questioned.
Wow!
A bunch of dogs raised their paws. There
were as many of them, as there were of “us” who had not been that
lucky.
The show dog said, “just like
Angels are close to God, WE TOO, are still close to the humans who we loved!
And so, we will do the same thing Angels do. We will “talk” to
our former owners and ask them to help. You will see, soon we will be a bunch of
Guardian Angels, here at Rainbow Bridge and down there on Earth.”
And so, our existence
came to be.
