CARL'S STORY:

Hi I’m Carl! I’m the 90 pound lap dog you’ve been looking for! My mom and dad broke me out of doggie jail 2 years ago after my mom’s first Rottie passed away from old age. Although I’ve been very happy with my mom and dad, I need to find a new place to call my own. My brother really doesn’t like me and seems to dislike me more and more every day. I try to ignore him but when he tries to fight with me I don’t run away. Mom is afraid one of us is going to get hurt badly since we’re the same size. She was hoping after 2 years of family walks and treats together and some recommendations from the vet that we would get along better, but we're not. The more fights we get into the more stressed mom gets and the more my brother thinks he needs to protect her. I have another very old brother and a younger bossy sister right now but it took a few weeks to get used to them. I pretty much pretend they aren’t there or cry when I have to share attention, so mom said I would probably like being an “only dog”, whatever that is.

I’m really smart and I LOVE food! I know how to walk on a leash, how to sit, lay down, and sit for attention. She loves to take me on trips with her. I really like going on car trips to see my granny and going to the beach! I just want to be where my people are. Swimming is one of my favorite things and helping mom cook dinner is super fun. She lets me snack on fruits and veggies while she cooks and it just makes me so happy! My favorites are kale, lettuce, carrots, and apples. I enjoy snuggling on the couch and watching TV with my people and if you're busy I just want to lay on your feet.  I love to fetch too but I really don’t like to give my ball back (mom just makes a game with 2 balls instead) or share any toys actually. I tell you I don’t want you to touch them. Cats wouldn’t be good roommates for me. I like the way they run fast and they smell like a tasty treat. I have 2 kids at home sometimes but I’m very clumsy and they know a lot of tricks like not to touch the dog food, toys, beds or treats unless the grownups are there and tell them to. Because of my clumsiness and how I guard my toys, mom thinks I probably shouldn’t be in another house with young kids.

I am 5 years young and still act like a puppy. I’m neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative. I'm probably mixed with a little something else because I have some wirey hair, but I don't know what it is. The vet says I’m very healthy. I really don’t like them much. I’m nice to one of the vets when mommy is there with me, but when she’s not I have to be asleep while they do my check-up. I am comfortable with a muzzle just in case the doctor needs to use one. I'm a good boy for baths and nail trims from mom at home. Boarding kennels also make me really nervous because my people are gone and all these strange dogs are so excited. I don’t have to skip trips often, but when I do my neighbor or my other granny and her friends come over and play with me – I really like them. I haven’t met a person I don’t like. At home I make my presence known when new people come to the house but as soon as we are introduced I just want to sit in their lap!

Mom and dad work all day and feel bad about leaving me in a kennel so they gave us each our own room. I still like to lay in my kennel and when we travel I’m very comfortable in it. I haven’t had any accidents in the house since I first came home. I had a doggie bed at one point but because I like to move my bed all over and burrow in it, I got holes in it and then played with the stuffing. Now I get a pile of blankets and I can put them anywhere I want!

If you think I could be your new best friend, please email my mom and talk to her. She’s really sad but wants to make sure I’m happy and a good fit for my new people. She said she'll take another road trip to take me where my new people are and will have my lifetime guaranteed collar and leash, and my food bowls, blanket, some heartworm prevention, and my favorite toys.
